How does Cellar Watch differ from other cellar management tools?

Cellar Watch provides unbeatable fine wine price data. All Cellar Watch data comes directly from Liv-ex – the global authority on fine wine pricing. This ensures that you receive impartial market information from an independent source.

I’ve signed up for Cellar Watch Basic. Why can’t I log in?

You should receive an activation email after signing up. Click on the link in this email to activate your account. If you don't receive the activation email, please contact us at info@cellar-watch.com. Basic accounts must be activated within seven days of the sign-up date.

How do I create my own cellar?

Click on the Cellars button in the navigation bar. A brief video and a detailed description of how to create cellars are available in the Help section.

How do I add wines to my cellar?

This can be done from the individual wine pages or from the Wine List page (in the Cellars section). Visit the Help section to view our series of help videos.

Does “quantity” refer to the number of cases or bottles?

This will depend on your account preferences. If you’ve chosen to view prices by the case, rather than by the bottle, “quantity” will refer to the number of cases that you own, rather than the number of single bottles. If you’ve selected 1x75cl, “quantity” will refer to the number of single bottles. You can change your settings at any time by visiting the Preferences page under the Account menu.

Why can’t I find all of my wines?

There are two possible reasons for this: Firstly, you may not be searching correctly. The search function is designed to look for keywords. For best results, search for the most identifiable part of the wine name only (leaving out words such as "chateau", "des", "la" etc). Visit the Help Videos page for more help with searching. The second possibility is that your wine has not been added to our database. To request an addition, please email info@cellar-watch.com.

The search results page isn’t showing the current prices of all recent vintages. Why is this?

Although Liv-ex has the world’s largest standardised database of fine wine prices, it’s not always possible to find reliable price date for rare wines or older vintages. If no data is available, the wine won’t be shown on the results page. Don’t worry though, you can still add the wine to your holdings. Choose a cellar on the Cellars page and then click on the Add Wine link on the Wine List page. Type in the wine name and the vintage that you’d like to add, along with your purchase details. Until price data becomes available, the wine will be valued at cost.

Can you upload my cellar for me?

We can upload your cellar for you for a small fee. Uploads start from £0.50 per cellar entry, with a minimum charge of £50. Please contact info@cellar-watch.com for a quote.

I’d like to separate my drinking wine from my investment wine. Can I do this?

Subscribers to Cellar Watch Pro can manage more than one cellar under their account. If you’d like to split your existing cellar into “drinking” and “investment” (or any other division), then simply click on the Duplicate link on the cellars page. You’ll then be able to delete wines where necessary and avoid repeating the uploading process.

I have my cellar organised in an Excel file. Can I import it?

Because of the difficulty of matching your wine names to ours, it’s not possible to import a cellar yourself. If you’d like us to do the name-matching and import a cellar for you, we can do so for a fee. Please send your wine list to info@cellar-watch.com for a quote.

How do I transfer wines to another cellar?

Navigate to the Wine List page and select the wines that you would like to transfer using the check boxes on the right-hand side. Choose the "Transfer" option in the dropdown menu just above the table, click Go, and then choose the correct cellar.

Is there any way to keep track of wines that have been consumed or sold?

From the Wine List page, click on the more icon next to the appropriate wine name. Select Drink or Sell and then fill in the required details. The wine will then be removed from your cellar. To view a list of wines that have been consumed or sold, navigate to the Analysis page and click on the Disposal List link.

What’s the difference between Liv-ex Trades and Market Prices?

All Cellar Watch price data comes directly from Liv-ex – the global authority on fine wine pricing. Liv-ex provides parallel sets of pricing information:

  • Market Price: A guide to the current wholesale selling price for in-bond stock in good condition, off the exchange. It is based on the cheapest 6 and 12-pack wholesale prices advertised by leading merchants in the EU over the last 14 days. If no price is found, the calculation is rolled back to the next price showing in our database. The Market Price is a guide to what you should expect to pay when buying wine in the market. When selling wine through a merchant, you will need to deduct their margin (typically 10-20%) from the Market Price in order to calculate your approximate net proceeds from any sale.
  • Average Price: The mean price of all stock listed by Liv-ex member merchants, weighted for volume.
  • Liv-ex Transaction Price: The price at which the wine traded on the Liv-ex Exchange.
  • Bid: The price at which Liv-ex trading members are currently bidding (to buy) for the wine on the exchange.
  • Offer: The price at which Liv-ex trading members are offering (to sell) the wine for on the exchange.

Unless otherwise stated, all prices are for in-bond stock in good condition. Only Pro subscribers have access to bids, offers and transaction prices.

I think one of your prices is incorrect. Whom should I contact?

Liv-ex constantly maintains its pricing database, but bad prices sometimes find their way in. If you spot a potential error, please email info@cellar-watch.com and we’ll look into it.

My Cellar Watch subscription has expired. If I renew it, will I have to upload my cellar data again?

No, there’s no need to repeat the uploading process. If you renew your account, all of your cellar data will reappear.

How do I renew my subscription?

If your subscription has already expired, log in to Cellar Watch with your email and password and you’ll be taken directly to a renewal page. Check your details and click Proceed to Payment. You’ll then be redirected to Worldpay, which handles online credit card payments for Cellar Watch. Having paid for your subscription, your account will be reactivated and any wines that you added to your cellar previously will be restored.

My account is configured to auto-renew. How do I change my credit card details?

You’ll need to edit your card details as and when they change. To do this, log in to Worldpay with the email address and password that were emailed to you when you first subscribed.

If you can't remember your Worldpay password, don't panic. Simply click on the forgotten password link. You'll then be asked to fill in your Future Pay agreement ID, which is shown on the Account Preferences page. If you need any assistance, feel free to give us a call.
